SUMMARY

At a unique one-day event, industry thought leaders, experts and visionaries will chart a path to holistic, unified operations in the supply chain that are truly resilient and truly sustainable.

After the twin force of the pandemic and a host of geopolitical tensions and policies interrupting the smooth flow of goods, we’re starting to understand the logistics sector more as a cohesive whole than a collation of disparate sectors.

This understanding is vital in bringing about safer and more efficient operations today, but also in preparing for the shockwaves of the future.

These shockwaves revolve around ‘China+1’ strategies that are leading to a wider and more diverse supply chain, the growth of India as a new logistics leader, and the geopolitical tensions that are restructuring our world.

In turn, this points to a new philosophy governing our sector, one that champions emerging technologies, digitalization, and cross-sector collaboration. Henceforth, our operations should no longer be limited to the port or the terminal, but rather interwoven into the broader journey of a container, meaning the future is very much in the realm of cluster operations and integrated logistics across the whole chain, from macro to micro.

This implies several key things:

A) We must be up to date and aware of breakthrough technologies

B) We must learn to work as a whole, learning from other sectors and collaborating where possible

C) We must open up to new market entrants and new energy

D) We must be aware of growing customer expectations

E) We must strive to form safe and sustainable operations across the board

F) We must be aware of a ‘new normal’ governing the global logistics chain

2024 demands new levels of real-time visibility as well as new capabilities within ports, as in an increasingly complex space, customers want simplicity and ease. If we fail to answer this call, logistics will crumble when the next political, health or social crisis hits, and at that point new entrants will enter and dominate the space.

It’s time to think boldly, to be brave and pioneering, to create a modern, aligned and sustainable supply chain that ‘future proofs’ all our businesses.

DAY 1

After registration, proceedings begin with a short introductory speech from the host that outlines the vision of the conference ahead. The host will also explain how attendees can take part via digital interactive tools and in-person engagement.

KEY-NOTE SPEECH: ANDRE SIMHA, GLOBAL CHIEF DIGITAL & INNOVATION OFFICER, MSC
To begin the conference, we begin with a 15-minute keynote speech on the topic of ‘Future Proof Technologies’ from Andre Simha of the world’s largest shipping line MSC.

In this opening session we will set the proverbial table and offer an insight into the state-of-play in
the sector. Discussing themes such as China+1 and the diversification of the supply chain, the growth
of India and geopolitical considerations, we explore the new landscape in which the supply chain
functions. Other key considerations will be the development of automation, technology, and new
working practices in the supply chain. Beginning in ports and terminals, we will spread out to the
wider chain, exploring the yard, logistics centres and airports, to offer a holistic vision of how the
sector can collaborate via new technologies.

The second session of the day looks into the journey of a container with the terminal acting as the key node in understanding the workings of the modern chain. By understanding the journey of a container, we seek to find the optimal ways to revolutionise how we work.

As well as offering an insight into cutting-edge technologies, the session also covers the most important element of such tools – how we actually use them for maximum benefit.
